The start of the vacation went smooth. We were out of the house and on the road by
4:45. I couldn't sleep well before we
left so I was up and pacing by 2:30. I
had the car packed by the time I woke Karl up at 4:00. Went and got gas and drinks while he was
getting ready. Man it’s so much easier
to pack up 2 people than 5. It turns
out the drive is easier too. J
We hit bad storms the whole drive through Arkansas and the
brief trek through Tennessee. About
halfway through Mississippi the rain cleared and the sun came out. We haven’t seen another drop since.

We arrived at our hotel at about 2:00, checked in and
freshened up and went out to experience New Orleans. I haven’t been here in 20 years or so. What I do remember is nothing like what I see
now.
We parked near Jackson Square and
the riverfront so we started exploring in Jackson Square. We stopped in a storefront promoting things
to do in NOLA. We asked Rhonda for some
food suggestions. She suggested
Oceana. We were NOT disappointed.
No wait to be seated, fast super friendly service and the
food……OMG it was good.
The crabcakes we great.
You read right, I ate crabcakes…..and I liked them. I however did not care for the crawfish. Karl said they were cooked perfectly and yet
I thought the texture was a bit rubbery.
No thanks.
I ate a blackened chicken po-boy…that spicy mayo is the best! Karl has a “Taste of New Orleans.” He has Jambalaya, Crawfish Ettoufee, red beans and rice and andouille sausage. I tried all but the crawfish and liked them all. Karl said Cajun may just be his new favorite type of food. They all had spiciness but all different at the same time. Good stuff.
After dinner we walked down Bourbon Street – mainly just to
say we did. Not really our scene. Interesting people watching not much
else. We did stop at Rev. Zombie’s
Voodoo shop and browsed a bit. No
pictures allowed.
We walked around Jackson Square a bit more and watched some
street performers.
We sat on the river
front for a bit and just relaxed. Wow what
a concept.
After a long day we headed back to the hotel for an early night. So far New Orleans has been all we hoped it would be.
