A little exploring and a little sitting and relaxing
So we got into our room - I took some pics for those of you who haven't been on a cruise here is what a room looks like. They aren't lavish but they do the trick!
Here are the bathrooms. Wanting a relaxing bubble bath - too bad.
Standing in the bathroom doorway - here is the bed and our window (there were no balconies left when we booked. :(
This is the closet and "dressing table"
And that is about it. No frills but a place to lay your head.
So we walked around a bit more and then took a nap before dinner. Naps were a daily occurrence for us.
Here is the first day's are activities. We did exactly zero of these activities. We were exhausted for the long day before.
We headed to dinner and we got the best dinner companions. Sharon and Phil and Tee and Jason.
Dinner conversations never lulled and we laughed often!!
We made new friends and hopefully will keep in touch for a long time. :)
Tonight's dinner menu:
We vowed to try the Didjas every night (as in did you ever....)
The first night was escargots - snails in garlic butter....
Karl liked them - I had one and found the texture much like mushrooms - slimy. So I only ate the one. The important part is that I TRIED it.
I also had spinach artichoke dip which I usually love....YUCK.
For dinner Karl had pan seared tilapia and I had grilled flat iron steak. Both edible, neither impressive. We planned to have more food than you could ever eat - turns out that is true - but since they have to appeal to a large number of pallets - the seasoning and thus flavor is very bland. The overall theme for us, the food was"adequate" but rarely great.

So it was my birthday and Sharon made sure our server (Alma - who was GREAT) knew this.
She made me a cute set of bunny ears to wear as they sang happy birthday.
And some sort of orange cake that I didn't even attempt. I did appreciate the gesture though!
It was a good day and we were so exhausted from all the walking the day before we called it an early night.
Day one of the cruise was in the books. I didn't get sea sick but if someone tells you that you can't feel the movement they are lying.....yes you can.
